Is it excess stock they use for motability then? Sorry, I am just now trying to learn how it all works. So at least then once a car was ordered it would arrive very fast, unlike if a new car is manufactured for you to your specified spec?

Almost all BMW’s, including those for Motability customers (when they are on the scheme) are factory orders. They tend not to build cars speculatively. Generally, the only cars that aren’t factory ordered to a customers bespoke specification are demonstrators and showroom cars. These are always very high spec cars with a lot of optional extras. Very rarely you might find a last minute cancelled order, but the car will usually have some options (which you’d have to pay for) and a dealer will be very reluctant to let the car go to a lease customer, as they will be able to sell it privately at far better margin.

I fear that if and when BMW return to Motability, it will just be 1 and 2 series cars. I have no inside info – that’s just an educated guess based on how the scheme is declining.
