Is it excess stock they use for motability then? Sorry, I am just now trying to learn how it all works. So at least then once a car was ordered it would arrive very fast, unlike if a new car is manufactured for you to your specified spec?
Not excess stock as such, more excess capacity that cannot be sold retail (where manufacturers make most money).
Fleet buyers such as Motability can usually buy excess capacity heavily discounted in normal times.
However currently there is no excess capacity as everything many manufacturers can make (with limited parts and component availability) is sold retail.
