Perhaps they’ll continue to remove optional extras as the car gets older: sun roof at 4 years and steering wheel at 5………

You may jest but I think there was a thread here years ago about who is responsible for the guarantee of the options you may buy for your Motability car?

As an example I’ve added what VW call IQ Lights that I’m paying over and above the AP that Motability want for the car. Now as it happens VW guarantees the car for 3 years so no problems should anything go wrong with those lights until the Motability lease ends because the manufacture pays not MB.

Now supposing I extend the lease for this car for 2 years it will mean that if my IQ Lights should go wrong in that 2 year extension time MB could well say I’d have to pay for the repair because as MB put it, any extras we put to the car is between us and the dealer and has nothing to with MB.

I’ve not actually heard of anyone being stung for repairs on their options but it is possible if you think about it but anyway I’m sure were OK with the steering wheel. ?

As far as satnav’s go I totally agree with you that updates should be provide free of charge as its a safety matter end of the day and my current car made by KIA had a map that was 4 or 5 years out of date the day it was delivered and the dealer or KIA wanted £30 for updating the system. I used a map from Pirate Bay to update it myself and is a risky way to go about things but there’s no way I’m paying for updates in a brand new car. Glad to say the map worked without any viruses or faults and KIA last year gave the option to download the latest maps and firmware from their servers should you want or need to all for free so a good thing there at least.
