Hi AzzaL14. It’s terrible for short stop – start driving. I’ve been averaging about 25mpg. Finally got to take it on the motorway and A roads. Driving around 60mph for a fairly extended run, i was achieving around 45mpg. My previous car would have been achieving around 55mpg, but that was a very frugal Golf. I think for a AWD mid-sized SUV 45mpg is about average. Unfortunately, 95% of my journeys will be around 25mpg. Please note these results are based on the onboard trip computer, not from refilling and manually doing the sums. This has also been with 2 fills of premium fuel. I was hoping it might improve the mpg. I will soon refill the car and do my own calculations. I’ll also be refilling with regular fuel to see how much of a difference it makes. I have been happy and surprised with how responsive and quickly the car sets off (i.e. 0-30mph), for, what I consider, a fairly low powered engine. But yesterday’s motorway driving quickly reminded me of lack of power when I overtook someone.

One thing to lookout for with KIA cars is the under stated reading of there MPG on the on board computer.

My current car is coming up to 4 years old (KIA Carens heavy tank) and the ship’s computer says its doing 33 MPG but the true MPG is 38 MPG and using a computer program to calculate MPG on every refuel I get 100% accuracy.

When I look at the difference between 33 and 38 MPG the maths adds up to the possibility that the cars computer is set to US gallons and my car being only a trim level of 3 out 4 does not have the option to change things like US gal to Imperial gals.

There were a lot of users in the KIA Owners forums reporting their cars where set to US gallons on delivery and although with them having trim level 4 were able to change it, for myself I got shrugged off by the dealer saying it is correctly set but the true MPG says different.

I would imagine this option is changeable in the new Sportage so worth having a look to see if it might be set to US gallons as the South Koreans think as we speak English we must be in the USA.
