Rene we are on Octopus Go 13.92p peak and 5.0p off peak until March 2023, for some strange reason Octopus gave us an extension of our current tariff when we resigned in March earlier this year. Our PHEV battery size is 13.8kWh, you will find you only require 10 to 10.4 kWh to full charge, at your current rate that works out 50 pence for 30 miles this time of year. My figures include the odd occasional cost of commercial charging. We have fitted a 4.4kWh solar array in March earlier this year, our actual electric bills have dropped dramatically, as for charging of the solar array, we receive 4.1p kWh from Octopus, it hardly worth us charging up in the day when we are only paying 5p off peak, however, when our tariff comes to an end in March 2023 this will have to change. As you will find our during your ownership the PHEV regenerative system will even save you fuel when full discharged and operating like a hybrid.

We are  (since 27th of last month, until 27th of may 2023) on Octopus Go too, but September 2021 V1 – 24p peak, and 5p off peak (that’s when we applied, took them until now to sort our SMETS2 meter out). Still better than the fixed Octopus Loyal 10m that we were on before with 44p all day around, lol.

And yeah, we noticed that in general you’d consume less, especially with smart driving. In the end, in that 135mpg test drive with the GTE, we managed 60 miles purely electric (despite only having 37ish miles of range). The VW “predictive cruise control” really helped there – it tells you to lift off the accelerator when approaching roundabouts or sharp bends, and uses regenerative braking to slow you down – whereas on straight roads, when you lift off, you coast (it basically engages “B” by itself).

It of course all boils down to driving, but in the end, if you only do long journeys occasionally, a PHEV is just as good a choice as an EV. In my opinion, anyway.
