After a bit more research and a couple of phone calls I am no wiser. In addition to their standard options, all trim levels of MINI now come with one of two options packs; either Premium or Premium Plus, there is no longer the option to select no options. I believe the wiring looms used to come from The Ukraine. By dropping the Sport Trim (which has adaptive suspension) having only 2 option packs the differences in wiring looms are greatly reduced (and simplified) to for alternate manufacturers. The main differences in the other trims are things like seats (all now heated), wheels, etc.
I sent an e-mail to my dealer about this and he phoned me confirming my car would now come with a lot more kit. When I asked he also said the level of the AP would be up to Motability. I contacted Motability and they said as far as they were concerned my AP was locked in with my order, and they are decided by the dealer. If there is any changes there may be other routes.
This is only my second car on the scheme; my first (and present) came with the exact options I ordered, and on collection I paid my AP as agreed when ordered. My husband was on the scheme for years and had seven vehicles. All but two were as ordered; he had ordered a Lupo, but they could not supply, so he got a Polo and a few cars later he got an Insignia with the next higher trim to that, that was ordered. In both cases there was no change to the AP.
