Good afternoon Has anyone, other than me, had to provide a deposit/security deposit ( £250, refundable on delivery of car)? Not an AP, purely, it seems, a gesture of goodwill on my part. I failed to ask if it would be witheld if I withdrew my order. Sometimes I question everything. Sometimes things seem less significant. Just wondering, while I wait for the email announcing the arrival of a new car ( September according to the Motability order on my account). I’m glad this forum exists. Seriously. Harry
Hi Harry. Whilst it’s not common, dealers are allowed to ask for a deposit. In reality, very few do, but the Motability website makes it clear that it is at the discretion of the dealer. If, for some reason, you decide to cancel the order, the dealer is obliged to refund it to you. When you order a Motability car you have not entered into a legally binding contract until the point that you enter your PIN when you take delivery of the car and, even then, your contract is with Motability Operations and not the dealership.
