Hi Neil. Have you thought about about applying for a grant for the advance payment for your next car before you decide to leave the scheme? I received a grant of £1995 for the full advance payment for my Volkswagen Tiguan just over a year ago. I need an automatic and the Elegance model spec because it had electric boot opening. I explained how bad my back is, all my medical problems and the Motability grants department were very kind and helpful. It wouldn’t have been possible for me to get the car without the grant and I’m very grateful for it.
I know the advance payments are very high, I just don’t want people to feel they have no choice but to leave the scheme because the advance payments are unaffordable when it may be possible to get help with a grant. It is worth a try speaking to the grants department because they can only say yes or no.
Is it possible for you to extend your lease on your current car? Motability can extend your lease up to the five years but it depends on your mileage. This might be worth considering if you haven’t already extended your current three year lease, you would be happy to keep the car you currently have a while longer and your mileage isn’t very high.
