Back in the day (1990s) Motability cars only came with standard colours. If you wanted a metallic colour you had to pay the list price price (more than most APs). So consequently most of the cars had non-metallic paint. This (so I was told) led to Motability being left with a load of cars in standard paint while all the other cars with metallic plaint flew off the lot. So these days Motability generally allows a “free” choice when it comes to paint. Some times there is a cost with some of the premium/premium paints; usually the difference between the premium and premium/premium.
