We ordered our new Hyundai Tucson in January and remarkably the dealer phoned today to say the car was on its way and they expected it earlier than they thought at the end of March. However we cannot collect the new car until mid/late April as the 3yr lease on my current car does not end until the 18th April.
Okay.
Seems rather frustrating that the new car will be sat for 3 weeks in the dealer because we have to wait for the full 3 years to elapse. Is this right?
To be frank, what makes you think that this would “not be right”? You contract runs to day “x”. That’s all there is to that. In fact, you should be very happy that Motability isn’t accommodating your wish, since that comes with repercussions. First, you’d pay an early termination fee (because that’s what you’re asking for, to get released out of a signed contract early – and they only do that for a good reason, which you don’t seem to have) – and second, you pretty much guarantee that in case you do need to cancel early at some point in the future, they’ll make you jump through hoops and charge you more for that early cancellation then.
I understand excitement for a new car, believe me, we had a “welcome party” for our last one – but to sheepishly ask “is this right” when yes, obviously, it is right.. doesn’t seem okay to me.
A contract is a contract. Enjoy the excitement counting the hours until “the day”. Makes it so much sweeter, imho.
