MB can’t really change anything on that front though – for that you need to query RAC. They made the rules in regards to insurance.
I do agree though, while i’m not 100% on the “remove power restriction” train, the insurance groups itself should be less restricted. Doesn’t matter if a kid drives a 120hp Focus or a 120hp 116d.
In regards to EVs, lower powered ones will become “mainstream” before long. We could talk about an increase in terms of power within reason, but handing an 18 year old a 200hp RWD (ID3) certainly isn’t a great idea – and i know that there’s responsible kids out there. The problem is the majority that isn’t, and i would’ve included myself in that irresponsible group, knowing how i drove (and crashed) multiple cars prior to reaching 20 years of age.
