Just bought an XC40 and the front seats definitely have a bar going across which causes discomfort. Did not notice it on the test drive, but when I was sitting in it after I had just bought it, and the salesman was talking me through the features for about 30 minutes I commented on it as it had just become apparent. His reply: ‘you’ve just been sitting in the same position too long!’ I have tried various adjustments but the problem remains. I suspect it has to do with the leg length extension. Not impressed.
Jonathan – I don’t have an XC40 but I have a BMW X1 with sport seats and extendable under thigh support. I have sciatica so am quite sensitive to these issues. If I extend the under thigh support I can feel a slight ridge, which isn’t a bar but the inner edge of the extended cushion beyond the ‘gap’ that it creates between the pad and the seat. If I retract the pad completely I can’t feel anything. Even though I am 6ft 2 I find that this position provides more than enough under thigh support for me and I don’t have any discomfort driving the car, even on long journeys, which is a relief as I was worried that we might regret opting for them. I’m sure that you’ve tried this, but I thought that I’d mention it as most people with sport seats seem to have the under thigh support extended, even if only slightly.
