Yes guys it’s an xc40 PHEV and I’m really looking forward to getting it. With regards to a full BEV to all intent and purposes it will be a BEV to us. We seldom do journeys of over 20 miles and I’m sure a full charge will give me this. I would, of course, go full BEV if and when the scheme gets something that is suitable, but we need and suv with a boot large enough to fit the wheelchair . The ID4 would have been ideal but wasn’t available when we changed plus we would prefer leather seats and I think that’s an extra.

Sounds like a wise move. Just needed to check that it wasn’t a case of ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ ? We have the same issue re needing an SUV with a good sized boot and that does limit choice quite a lot.

Whilst PHEV’s are often dismissed by the motoring press as being a compromise, mostly designed for company car drivers as a tax dodge (many of whom apparently never plug them in) and not worth the price premium over a petrol for private buyers, I think that they make a lot of sense for Motability customers. The price premium AP wise isn’t that much and it never ceases to amaze me at the incredibly low mileages that many Motability customers do. In these cases (such as yours) it is perfectly possible to run them mostly on electric whilst never having any need to have the hassle of charging away from home and therefore no range anxiety issues.  We considered one ourselves, but in the end we went for the car that we wanted first, with the means of propulsion being secondary. Next time, if our first choice car is available as a PHEV I think we could be tempted.

I hope that it works out for you and you don’t have buyers remorse a second time if a suitable BEV suddenly appears next week.
