Mercedes working with NVIDIA USA in house chip production
nVidia doesn’t produce chips. They buy their chips like most other companies from TSMC, as do AMD, Qualcomm etc.
That’s why you can’t get a blooming RTX3080/3090 anywhere. nVidia produces GPUs, amongst other things. Which of course are important as well for cars, a better GPU (graphical processing unit) will increase speed and “fluidity” of infotainment systems – but the chips needed to make a GPU are still bought in. That’s why they’re trying to acquire ARM (which might or might not happen, there’s political issues etc).
Intel recently said that they expect the shortage to last well into 2023, something i’ve assumed multiple times already. This won’t stop in 2022, and potentially not even in 2023.
