I used to live abroad. Might move again in a couple of years. Lived in France, Spain and Thailand, I love Cyprus. Just wish I was locked down over there. Always eating outside in the sun. Fresh breezes off the ocean. Arthritis ten times better. I know exactly what you mean Brydo. The days are endlessly dull. I live as a cave dweller in the dark. The garden is wet and damp and nothing changes. Except covid gets worse. Its airborne. Hanging around in clouds wherever we go. Wish I had never come back. Stayed in the sun. Ride it out over there. Our Health service is crap. People are great, but NHS underfunded and starved of investment. My orthopaedic surgeon told me waiting list for a routine but necessary op is now 18 months. Said it will be 30 months within a year because of the backlog. A friend just got an offer of op on the NHS. Have a short term fix in the New Year. Then another big op in a few years. Or wait two years for one that fixes it permanently. Or pay 6k to go private. Some choice. Not a lot for some, far too much for others. Most European countries have a better health service than us. They fund it. In the whole of France there is no ward with more than two beds. Lots and lots of wards. All small. Our hospitals are dangerous in covid because we practice industrialised wards, as if Henry Ford had set up a system. The more efficient we are …the more cross infection. The fuller the wards for covid, the greater the cross infection. Land is expensive so we build up. Lifts have to be used for the visitors, sick and staff. Hospitals become paralyzed because the lifts don’t shift enough people unless you cram them, and if you do infections rise. We have been sold the myths of a great country with a great NHS and wonderful police, the best country to live. One is chronically underfunded and the other chronically racist. That’s not speculative, I used to teach the police. And I have been a long time user of the NHS with a total of 3 years in hospital over my lifetime so I know whereof I speak. We are a broken country led by a charlatan in the interests of the super rich and their friends. When covid does lessen I will vote with my feet.
