Its nice to have new car every three years but not essential. With the number of cars available on the scheme tumbling, its time for some changes. Motability cars, in perfect condition for their age, less than five years old should be offered to members. We have a one year old xc40 going back in February, from what my dealer has told me there are motability first time customers with no car waiting. So let’s think out side the box and ease the problem anyway we can.

I agree, but it would only make financial sense if those taking ‘recycled’ cars didn’t have to sacrifice their full allowance for older cars as they do at present with year 4 and 5 lease extensions, as that’s a poor deal for the customer and a nice earner for Motability.

One company that I worked for did this with company cars that had been returned early when people had left the company etc. They went into a ‘pool’ until the 3 years or 60,000 miles were up and anyone could access them, either for the remainder of the lease or for a short time, which was great if there was a delay on your next car. I had all sorts of cars for a few months that I wouldn’t have ever ordered, such as a BMW 3 Series Coupe and a Volvo 850T, and it was a nice way to try out different cars!
