I’ve got to renew my license by mid October because I reach the grand old age of 70.

You can apply for the license 90 days before expiry of your old one and after 4 or 5 attempts this week I managed to get the form done.

First attempt, TBH I jumped the gun on the first attempt because it was at 93 days before expiry and after filling the form it said I was not eligible to renew my license.

Second attempt, tried again at 88 days to go to expiry and their system crashed about 4 pages in.

Third attempt and 87 days to go to expiry I got to the page where it asked about my passport but because I haven’t travelled abroad since becoming disabled I let that lapse six years ago but by the time I’d taken on board why or what they were asking the online form timed out so back to zero.

Forth attempt, God knows how many days to expiry but I got to inputting my driver license number only to be told “sorry we can’t retrieve your records at this time, please try again in 24 hours.

Last and final attempt, now up until now all my attempts were carried out in mid-morning but this time I went for late afternoon and was successful with the application with no crashes or hiccups.

DVLA said the license will be with me within 2 weeks, we shall see.
