    DaveG – I assume that you have a 3 Series as they have adaptive lights as standard? It’s weird that High Beam Assist isn’t part of the system though, as proper adaptive headlights rely on high beam assist to function properly. When using full beam, do your headlights ‘carve out’ the oncoming vehicle only and then fill that part of the beam in again the second the car passes? If so, it seems daft that you’d have to manually switch between main and full beam.

    Adaptive headlights aren’t standard on as many cars as you think. Of our 6 shortlisted SUV’s, only the VW Tiguan Elegance has them as standard and several of the others (XC40, Q3 etc) don’t even have them as options. Pretty much all cars have LED headlights now but I have been used to fully adaptive matrix type systems on our last few cars and, even though we do very little driving in the dark these days, I would really miss them.
