Blimey, you had a difficult time getting the referral too. This is what concerns me….taking strong pain meds regularly builds up a tolerance. Iv tried so many different types including tramdadol, have accidentally overdosed a few years back and needed liver etc checking. I am a catch 22 tho as being asthmatic prevents me having the ibpuprofen type meds as it affects my breathing, Iv pretty much exhausted all other types up to the morphine and am waiting for my second major surgery date. There will come a time when surgery won’t be an option either which worries me.
The gp that said she would refer me was a new gp and suggested I have counselling for my health condition ? she hadnt even read my medical history – Iv not seen or spoken to her since. It really knocked me I suppose as my regular gp has always been fantastic and will show a genuine concern if she feels I’m getting worse.
Its worrying that other health professionals go the extra length to have things sorted and put straight after a visit and discussion when it should really be the GP. I’m really glad that yours has all moved in the right direction after the length of time you have been painfully waiting. I do hope you get your appointment soon and can start to feel more comfortable and I’m really pleased your meds got adjusted to relieve the pain.
I was originally told to take the pain meds on the as and when basis due to the strength but I can’t function day to day without taking it 4 hourly apart (often the relief doesn’t last that long if at all) I think my gp knows how I manage them as Iv previously discussed it and pick the repeat up monthly without issue. If the gp or pain clinic could reevaluate the meds and give me something that lasts a bit longer I would be so grateful to try it.
From what you have said, it sounds like an appointment with the pain clinic would benefit myself. I think I’m going to chase the referral as I really have struggled today.
Thankyou for giving me an insight into what they are like, il try anything if it helps! ????
