Leasing sites and news articles are indicating the loss of £500 from the government grant will increase lease costs by £10pcm and the total loss of £3k, between £30-60 a month depending upon the car with the higher figure attributable to the likes of Tesla and high end Jag’s etc. Doing the maths and with some assumptions we are possibly looking at an extra £1k -£1.5k on AP’s, but this could be offset if motability are able to negotiate a better deal with manufacturers. An extra 1% discount is £300-400 and a 2.5% discount around a grand. Of course there may be little motivation for manufacturers given supply and demand issues, but on the other hand they could see interest wane from private buyers. The Kona electric premium now has almost an £8k difference between the 39kw and 64kw, previously £4k. That may be a bridge to far for many.
An excellent and insightful post fwippers. That all makes a lot of sense.
