Very true, Mr Wings. The US were desperate to stop TSR2 so they could sell us Phantoms. A book called “Project Cancelled” by Derek Wood tells that story and so many others about the dismantling of our aviation industry. An intriguing and entertaining read – Wood was a damn good writer as well as an aviation expert. Worth a look?
I suppose we should be grateful that we still have a few TSR2 airframes left. The cancellation of the Canadian Avro Arrow led to the destruction of everything. All the blueprints, machine tools AND the airframes of the prototypes which were, by political dictat, broken up into small unrecognisable bits. All so the US could sell ’em Voodoo fighters which were rubbish compared to the Mach2 plus Arrow.
