Beautiful first thing – crunchy grass when  was out feeding the birds and had to break the ice on the bird bath quite vigorously.  Squirrel hasn’t been around for the last 3 days and I don’t blame him – I imagine he’s full of hazelnuts and in a deep doze until it warms up a bit.

Sad news from sister this morning – she had to have her cat Ferdinand p.t.s.  Kidney failure after slow but inevitable decline: he was a high maintenance c.10 – 12 year old when she adopted him 4 years ago.  She takes the cats others are afraid to tackle.  She left the vet in tears 9.35am, contacted Cat Protection regarding a couple of possibles at 10.00am, then rang me in tears 10.25am to let me know about Ferdie passing.  She’s a pro-active griever.

Can’t wait to see which Holy Roman Emperor she favours next, having had a Maximilian, a Frederick and a Ferdinand.  I’m hoping for Leopold, Rudolf, Lothair or Berenger.  Charlemagne might be a bit too much.
