All models come with drum brakes at the back. NOT a cost-saving measure or the like. The drums, fairly big things, are a brand new design, commissioned, allegedly, specially for the ID3. They are sealed for life (some 150,000km). VW is said to have chosen them to avoid disc “drag” on the driven rear wheels and because the regenerative braking system does a fair bit of slowing down. So, sorry, VW, I was missing something.
Anybody know whether any other EVs are using drums? Will go and have a look…
