Non of my “non mobility” cars has been brand new on PCP as I don’t think it is good value, instead I’ve spent up to a max £11k buying a car that’s a couple of years old. I’ve then been able to trade that in as and when I wanted to. Given all the additional costs to running your own car it’s still worked out cheaper although there is more work (and stress?) in doing this than the simplicity and ease of having a mobility car.
My thinking behind this is that I can get a car that’s not available on the scheme… currently my other car is a saab convertible and my wife drives a Mercedes C250 coupe…. both of these could be parked up and abandoned after 3 years having cost the same as my mobility car, anything their worth as a trade in is money in my pocket.
I only have a motability car now because when I turned 50 I fancied driving a brand new car for a bit (a sort of Birthday treat?) and also I wanted to drive an electric car so got a Leaf just to commute to work and back… turns out it’s so nice to drive it’s my main means of transport now
