As your thread is a bit quite martino I thought I’d just chime in in what I think is discrimination but discrimination by where you live with your disability.

A few example I know of…. I have a pass to cross the Clifton Suspension Bridge free of charge thought the magnetic card cost a one of payment of £10 but then it’s free forever.

This is great for myself but it has a little bit of discrimination in it because to get the free crossing’s you have to live in the BS Post Code area so disabled folk from other parts of the country get discriminated against.

This type of thing I’ve seen repeated across the country in regards to council car parking and another example amongst many others is Dawlish town council and the surrounding area who do free parking at council pay and display car parks but like the Clifton bridge above there’s a fee but allows you to park all year round for free. Can’t remember what the fee is now, think its £10 or £20 but if your only staying a week or doing day trips that’s works out more expensive that P&D and again where you live creeps in because you have to be a local resident for the concession so like I’m OK for the above mention bridge but in Dawlish I get discriminated against because although disabled I don’t live there.

This type of fee system is repeated in many area’s along the south coast and as an occasional users feel I’m being discriminated against because its not easy using P &D machines when your disabled.

I had correspondence with Tenby County Council a few years ago when I ask why they don’t do any concession at all but they used the excuse that the car park I was referring to belong to another Saundersfoot council so had nothing to do with them even though they both have the same parking policy for the disabled i.e. none.

I don’t agree much about anything Bristol City Council does but one thing I do say is you can park in their car parks free of charge by simply displaying your Blue Badge regardless what part of Europe you come from and the only other I know of that I use is West Dorset council where its free for a 3 year pass that cost you postage stamp.

Hope that gets your thread moving martino.?
