Average speed is an important factor not mentioned.
Even so, I honestly don’t think 40mpg is anything to write home about. I dread to think what he was getting driving normally.
My X1 18d smashes those figures, even with town driving and under 30mph. I’m depressed if she goes under 50mpg which would usually be due to crawling traffic, jams, etc.
On various runs equaling a few hundred miles, in the region of 60 miles each and with reasonable traffic, she can get in excess of 65mpg using ‘Eco Pro’ driving mode.
On a plus side, Citroen has the Grip Control which I believe is an alchemist 4×4. The reviews I’ve read of it have said it’s fantastic. Even Clarkson tried one on old (best) Top Gear a number of years ago and said it was amazing.
