Was reading this thread on my way back home last night from visiting the kids & grandkids in Scandinavia, ( where I have spend a lot of time ) which is ‘Socialist’ but actually so very very far right of Corbyn & Sturgeon!
On SK 1501 from Kastrup, cruising at 34000 ft, I was looking out of the window, into the darkness , in awe of nature’s wonders and the night sky, and all of the lights below, and remembering similar ‘right v left’ threads on here!
Nothing changes, we all have opinions, valid opinions, to which we are entitled, and especially on politics, and some will never change their opinion, but some also seem to live in a surreal world, a parallel universe even, where every Tory is a member of the landed gentry, or a nasty factory owner intent on shafting the workers, and eating their children, and every union official is a hero and Tollpuddle martyr, oh, and the TV News political Agendas are not left wing?
The vast majority of people want prosperity and security for themselves and their loved ones, including what they see as some change for the better , and ask this of their politicians, but other than a vociferous minority what they do not want is the ‘society changing ,absolutely massive & unprecedented , and as sensible people have recognised, completely unaffordable state expenditure ‘ planned by Mr. Corbyn had he become PM..
A spending spree on increasing ‘the state’ ,and his declared aim of giving huge powers to the Trades Unions, would have invariably driven much private business and commerce away from the U.K. almost immediately , and caused a massive run on the pound, wrecking pension plans and other investment vehicles, bankrupting thousands of businesses and savers alike, and ruined the lives of millions of people , with record job losses!
Even more fundamentally worrying than this nightmare financial scenario , is the ‘defence of our country’, and of course our very way of life, which Corbyn has consistently proven, would not be safe in his hands, but perhaps more importantly, the promotion of groups like his insidious Militant Tendency supporters etc., present an even more dangerous threat to our British way of life!
Unfortunately, trades union leaders have gained a bad reputation, some unfairly, due to the antics of a few ‘politically motivated troublemakers’ , and as long as ,’These ‘ TU leaders get a platform to voice their anti Tory venom , the perception of trades unions will not change?
Having grown up in the valleys of the Peoples Republic of South Wales, I am firmly right wing, but definitely not associated with any political party , and I am a former trade union official, and fully support the idea of ‘Trades Unions’, as there is no doubt that unions have done wonders for a lot of workers over the years, especially in Wales, but I’m not blind to their political agendas either, however, unfortunately, some ( a lot ) people seem to still have the blinkers on.
Sorry about the essay?
Hey ho, all part of life’s rich tapestry I suppose, & an old cynic’s 10 Kroner’s worth!
