Hi
I have always believed that motability was set up to provide a way for the UK government to support the entire UK motor industry.
However motability customers if given a “free” choice will select 97% of the time a car not made in the UK.
Only 7% of cars on the motability scheme are built/assembled in the UK.
The decision of Motability to remove certain “luxury” brands wholesale from the scheme, thus removing customers choice.
In my view this is being done to pander to certain views of the press. Our Government now looking everywhere to find ways to stay in power. Thus hoping the votes lost by this move will be more than offset by those that believe motability customers should not be allowed to drive “luxury” cars.
What next?
How to move from 7% UK cars to 50% UK cars on the scheme by 2035. It could be done by UK motor manufacturers building as good as Chinese/Korean cars at a competitive price. Then motability customers will be able to decide themselves. But probably the advance payments will be used to guide customers into UK cars.
Perhaps we are seeing the end of motability.
