Hyundai Kona was/is on my shortlist for when reordering Q4/Q1, even more so after the Enyaq hike! No found out they’re stopping the bigger battery version for the 2026 model.

Any thoughts on how that might filter through to the scheme come a late Dec early Jan reorder date? More mines in the minefield!

      Update:

The Hyundai Kona for the 2026 model year is available for factory order with delivery starting in January 2026. This indicates the vehicle is already in production and being released in the UK around this time.
You can place an order for the 2026 Hyundai Kona through leasing companies like

So expect it’ll be stock only or new build base spec small battery by Dec.

It may be an upgrade or model change in the pipeline, hope its that and com ordering time it may settle down.

I was checking out Octopus leasing scheme, ,2-4 year old cars. But still, motability is still the best deal.

Well, I’ve re-asked the question of Gemini (which can interrogate the www quicker than I can) as follows.

Q: is UK spec kona being changed to smaller battery only for 2026?

A: Yes, for the 2026 model year, the UK-spec Hyundai Kona Electric is being simplified to only offer the SE trim level with the smaller 48.6-kWh battery, discontinuing the larger battery variants and other trims like the N Line. This change focuses the lineup on the base SE Standard Range model.
What this means for the 2026 UK Kona Electric:
Single Trim: The only model available will be the SE Standard Range.
Smaller Battery: It will come exclusively with the 48.6-kWh battery pack.
Fewer Options: Higher trims and the larger battery option, which offered more range, are being dropped from the lineup.
Potential for Future Models: Some speculation suggests this move may pave the way for a new Ioniq-branded vehicle to fill the gap for smaller electric cars.

Kona SE trim is US spec, UK don’t use that spec anymore. Also the new Kona is MY25 in europe…

It would be sucicide in europe to remove trims and only have the smaller battery.

I’d put money on a replacement – likely Ioniq 3, their version of the EV3, appearing in 2026. It probably won’t have a small battery version to start with, given the EV 3 is 58 or 81kw, so they will continue to offer the Kona as a low cost entry model before ending production as an EV entirely.

@Abercol – absolutely. Unfortunately I doubt any replacement will be on the scheme by Dec/Jan (and certainly not at current Kona ap) but the choice of larger battery Kona won’t be either. The shortlist is getting mighty short! Lol.

Like so much in life we’ll just have to wait and see come the time.

I think the article is referring to US markets not Europe.  I wouldn’t trust AI, it told me 6 months ago that the renault 5 was on the scheme!
