About two weeks ago I booked my first service with Renault Stoneacre in Chesterfield. It was for an 08:30am service so I could wait for my car. I phoned them this morning just to check everything was OK for the service on Thursday and the member of staff I spoke too said there were no ‘wait’ bookings available for that day. He wanted me to take a hire car instead so they could have the car all day.
This is not the first problem I’ve had with Stoneacre Renault Chesterfield. I had a problem with the car and basically they were not interested. They said they couldn’t even look at it for seven weeks.
I genuinely believe this is because I am with Motability. Once the ‘Motability’ word gets mentioned, their attitudes seem to change as in they lose all interest.Mother Nature don't draw straight lines, We're broken moulds in a grand design, We look a mess but we're doing fine, We're card carrying lifelong members of the Union Of Different Kinds..........

I doubt it’s because you are with Motability, the service department will get paid exactly the same for warranty work, lease or private .

Agreed, never had a problem yet with any service department.
Surely a courtesy car for the day is preferable anyway? It’s the first thing I arrange for when booking Mrs 72 dudes Motability car in for a service.

It is usually drop the car off at 9.00 pick up the courtesy car and get the car back at 5.00pm.
Even when I had a private car, used to drop it off first thing to get repaired/ serviced/ MOT’d..
No timeslots nowaday.
August 12, 2025 at 10:44 pm #311168The garages are full of work. Even if they provide the worst service possible, people still will use them as there is no alternative to the approved dealership and their garages.
I would say the small number of approved garages is maintained on purpose, but I have no prove rather than my assumption.
Otherwise why the garages all together (Skoda, Mazda) will start charging £120 fees for checking the car and confirming it is faulty during the warranty period?

I heard on the grapevine that they treated all customers the same not just Motability so I moved on to another brand.
August 13, 2025 at 8:37 am #311175Yes, I had Volvo CX-90 from new in 2010 and our main garage in Berkshire was terrible. If I remember right, throughout the warranty period I have been to the garage 22 times.

I think Renault dealers/workshops differ. They work on time slots.
When I took my Clio in for its first service back in June, the woman booking-in cars said they allow 2-hours to service a car. Because mine required a software update however, she apologised and said that 2-hour time slot will probably run to 2-hours 30-minutes and she was sorry! I’d already agreed to sit and wait (with numerous cups of free coffee thrown in & big flat-screen TV to watch) and it wasn’t a big deal.

Thanks for the reply but to say “No timeslots nowaday” just goes to show how misguided you are.
As has been pointed out in another reply, Renault and a number of other dealerships do operate on a time slot basis. Also, I very much doubt if there are any such things as “courtesy cars” available any more. You do have to pay.Mother Nature don't draw straight lines, We're broken moulds in a grand design, We look a mess but we're doing fine, We're card carrying lifelong members of the Union Of Different Kinds..........
August 13, 2025 at 12:21 pm #311191i had a drop and wait appointment at my nissan dealer for my jukes service in may. all was fine and ready to go but it took mota an hour and a half to authorise the invoice. complained to mota and they said their service dept can take up to 2 hours to ok services and they reccomend you get a loan car or mentioned something about a taxi service which i may look into next year when its due the mot etc for end of lease.
2 hours to tick a box really!!!
August 13, 2025 at 12:50 pm #311193I could be absolutely wrong, but I think collection service is a must on Motability or they pay for the taxi?
I had my VW for four years and they would come and collect from home. Same goes with my current Skoda, despite all the issues I have with the car.
With Mazda it was different- the closest garage was 15 miles away, on my way to work and Motability covered the taxi costs- Mazda was faulty from day 1 and didn’t last for long.

Thanks for the reply. It would be great if we could somehow find out if Motability do a “collection service” or maybe even pay for a taxi. My last car was a Toyota and they were good with the “collection service” too.

August 13, 2025 at 3:09 pm #311201Ask for a courtesy car if they want to keep it all day. Usually these have to be booked 3ish weeks in advance.
Failing that, here.

Motability doesn’t do a collection service. Some dealership offer picking up/dropping off the car, usually for a small fee, but that’s their offer, not MBs. MB, to my knowledge, also doesn’t reimburse Taxi rides, but i’m not 100% sure on that.
If your dealership sucks, go to another one. I never understood the fixation on a particular dealership – when we ordered our current car, we skipped the two closest dealerships after they turned funny when they realised it’s for a MB car, ordered it at the third 40 miles away.
In your case, i’d give Renault in Sheffield a ring, and schedule a service there – while straight away making clear that you need transportation if they want to keep the car all day/over night, or require the car being picked up/dropped off.
That all said:
Also, I very much doubt if there are any such things as “courtesy cars” available any more. You do have to pay.
Calling people out for “being misguided” while dropping this isn’t a great look.
For reference, we had a courtesy car when required. The only drawback was that we had to wait 2 weeks longer to the appointment as opposed to an appointment without requiring the courtesy car. We had a Taigo R-Line DSG when we had the steering rack replaced (from Thu-Mon) on the GTE. You of course have to put the fuel you use back in, but that goes without saying. That was 3 months ago.

Current: Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate

I only stated my experience with 3 different dealers, no need to go off on one. But courtesy cars or hire cars are the norm for us and never had to pay for one either.
