Those of us of a certain age will remember that not only was there a wide range cars on the scheme (plus ability to buy privately VAT free) but the big three Ford, Austin Rover and Vauxhall would actually put Motability specific spec vehicles on the scheme. From memory these were often base models with the addition of an automatic box when those specs weren’t publicly available with an automatic box. I remember the Escort especially.

Anyone ever have a Motability exclusive model?

Lee as someone who started with a blue invacar I forgot about the special edition Motability car’s. Although I did buy my Austin maestro with a Motability loan in 1984. You also got the Chrysler Sunbeam and Avenger on the list of the best deals.

Although I couldn’t get a sunbeam to lease as dealers had already taken their quota of MB cars and were worried that they would be saddled with too many coming back in three years time.

That got me thinking. I have been on the scheme since it started in 79/80 (I think) and my first car was indeed the Chrysler Avenger. How things have changed since then.

I’ve been on the scheme 28-years now and my very first Motability car was a lovely little automatic Vauxhall Tigra.

Ah, fond memories.

The old Nissan Micra with a CVT gearbox, they did a Motability only version with power steering.
