I am due to order my replacement car at the start of the last quarter of this year and for the first time, I’m contemplating an EV. I can have a charger at home, we do about 15k a year but with living in N Ireland, the longest journeys would be within a 200 mile return journey.
Haven’t previously done so because of range anxiety and primarily because I think earlier versions of EV are insipid and boring looking.
However, there are a few I am starting to like and the Cupra is one of them. On paper it satisfies my needs and I like the look of itHas anyone taken delivery of one or had any dealings that might assist me in deciding?
Many thanks

A friend has the tavascan V2, he loves it. The only thing he dislikes is the brakes and that the charging tech is not as good as the Enyaq.
There’s an offer by the JCB group on the tavascan maybe it’s worth asking local dealers to try offer similar?
“CUPRA Tavascan 210kW V1 77KWh 5-door Automatic
Normally £2,495 Advance Payment, but at JCB CUPRA you pay £999 Advance Payment!
Saving you £1,496
CUPRA Tavascan 210kW V1 77kWh 5-door Automatic with Winter Pack fitted
Normally £3,495 Advance Payment, but at JCB CUPRA you pay £1,899 Advance Payment!
Saving you £1,596this offer is only available on cars ordered by 30th June 2025 and handed over by 30th September 2025.”

I had heard something about the response of the brakes so it’s something to look out for when we organise the test drive. With regards to the brakes and the charging tech, I have never driven or examined an EV so won’t have comparisons.
Nice to see there are discounts on the car. I still have 2 quarters until mid October to see how prices go, hopefully down, but the problem I have is there are only 2 dealers in Northern Ireland so not much flexibility. However, if discounts are near the £2k mark, that would cover an EasyJet day trip to order and a ferry crossing to collect!May 6, 2025 at 9:42 am #305177I think the Cupra would fit your needs very well.
I do 160 mile round trips from Dumfries up to the central belt and have not had any issues any time of the year, and that was starting at 80%. We use a public charger about 40 miles away for a 10 minute splash and dash if we needed to. Used it when I had the 58kWh ID3 . Not used it since the bigger battery Enyaq.
Have a look at Zap Map as you think things through. It’ll give you plenty of choices of what is near you. Charging at home is just fantastic, fantastically convenient and fantastically cheap.

May 6, 2025 at 5:39 pm #305196I sat in the Tavascan v2 last week and was surprised by just how nice it was inside. The boot is spacious despite the angled boot lid, all seating was roomy enough for those who’d use it.
We sat in a showroom model, which just showed the kind of warnings you’d get from a car that hadn’t been through the new car preparation process. That was a little annoying but I’d definitely consider going to look when we start looking for my next car, although we were there for about half an hour and nobody spoke to us.

Like you, I sat in the V2 and was very impressed by the interior. I was actually there to look at the Terramar and, whilst it’s equally nice, my partner who does most of the driving liked the Tavascan better and best to keep her happy! It’s funny how different dealerships treat people. I was treated excellently by Charles Hurdt Cupra. The branch manager greeted me, apologised the Motability expert wasn’t there (I hadn’t booked) gave coffee/water , chatted away, showed both cars and arranged a call back in July to test drive. I was as well treated as when I was a private buyer.
May 21, 2025 at 7:54 pm #305726Tavascan is on my short list, but don’t think it will make the final cut.
Really put off by the touch sensitive steering wheel buttons. Reviews have also said that the rear window gets dirty quickly and having no rear wiper could become annoying quickly.
As mentioned above, various reviews have mentioned the brakes. From what I understand, it seems that at the point where regen braking isn’t sufficient, the transition to mechanical braking isn’t smooth.
Finally, I really didn’t want to go beyond £4,000 AP. Looking at my short list, most are over my £4k budget. So I’m willing to go above budget, but it would have to be a COMPLETELY suitable car.
May 21, 2025 at 10:36 pm #305731I would love to say no rear wiper is common and not a problem. I’d love to but I’d be lying. The old shape Ioniq 5 doesn’t have one and it’s fine if you’re constantly driving at speed but reversing having been stood still for hours is a serious challenge without the cameras making visibility better than guessing.

May 22, 2025 at 9:28 am #305744Hi,
whilst I don’t have a Tavascan I’ve owned a cupra Born v3 for a year now and it has been fantastic to drive and own and though some time away from renewing I’d definitely consider
Good luck with your choice 👍

Hi, this sounds like a great deal and I just wondered if there is a suitable source of information on Motability discounts (not just for Cupra). Maybe it’s somewhere on this website/forum and I haven’t seen it yet. Many thanks!

May 27, 2025 at 2:38 pm #305896Apologies for the duplicate posting – it said ‘a serious WordPress error has occurred’ but it seems to have posted my messages anyway!
To answer my own question, I’ve now spotted the thread on the front page with the special offers on it.
Thanks!
