Veigel electronic accelerator issues on BEV

      Anyone experience with similar problems?

Veigel push/pull brake/electronic accelerator kit fitted to an Audi Q4 (BEV). Went to collect the car this am. Controls don’t work (second attempt at fitting, first one faulty – over 8 weeks duration so far). When you engage the accelerator it’s similar to an F1 launch control; full foot-to-the-floor power (you’d rear-end every car in traffic with this, especially as its an electric AWD). I’ve declined the car while they try to fix the controls. I also have no faith in the fitters as they’ve proved to be well below par.

I’ve had issues with an over-ring electronic accelerator on a previous vehicle (removed after failing 3 times). I think Im going to replace this with the old school mechanical push/pull controls. Before I do, I’d be grateful of other’s experience/insights. Many thanks.

I’ve not experienced any problems – YET!

I have a Kodiaq iV on order and wanted Brig-Ayd electronic throttle, only to be told it wasn’t possible on that vehicle. My adaptation company looked into it further and said that only the Veigel one was suitable. I had a conversation with Veigel’s rep in this country, who said that they would have to fit it in their workshops in Aylesbury. That is due to be happening next week (been waiting since early December), and should have the car about a week later.

I’ll update once I have the car.

I’ll be interested to see your results as its likely the wiring looms for the accelerator connection should be very similar in a Skoda & Audi? Also if the ‘one man band’ fitter can’t fix it, I’ll suggest the dealer contacts the Veigel rep. Thanks

Well, the fitter has said they can reduce the speed a bit if I’m uncomfortable with the pick-up, suggesting I’m not used to driving an EV. (The salesperson, when driving the car looked like a learner driver on his first attempt in a manual, the car was leapfrogging down the forecourt). I’ve been driving electric motor hybrids for 10 years, and know if I floor it, its quick (esp in sport mode). So, I’ve given up and will be returning to a mechanical solution and may email Veigel (a German company) to say that their device proved incompatible with a German EV.

Is it possible that the electric controls are activating launch control. I do believe older q4s had it and I’m led to believe that most EVs still have it but they made it hard to do/work out and that they don’t advertise it now due to idiots crashing.

I’ve emailed Veigel to ask if they’ve had this issue previously fitting to Audi Q4 etrons . We’ll see if they reply, otherwise it’s back to good old mechanical. I’ve no faith in the fitters as they left the car in this state (& also fixed the steering wheel at its lowest point, so it’s nearly impossible for a wheelchair user to transfer into the drivers seat). Any way I think I’m looking at it taking nearly 3 months to fit adaptations. Moan, moan etc

Well, Veigel UK have really stepped up. They’re organising for one of their mechanics to visit the dealer to fix the issue. Fingers crossed.

An update for anyone interested in fitting a Veigel electronic understeering push/pull brake/accelerator.

A mechanic from Veigel UK came and fitted a throttle control to my new motability lease (Audi Q4). The original fitter couldn’t make it work (they also set the steering wheel too low and generally was useless). The Veigel mechanic also positioned the steering wheel in a higher position and fitted the push/pull control in a better position for the user (me). There is now a rotary dial with 3 settings to reduce/throttle the power so when you apply the hand control there is a controlled response from the accelerator.

If you’re getting one of these devices fitted, I’d ensure that the dealer contacts Veigel UK. and requests that they fit their device to your vehicle. They know what they’re doing and really stepped up in helping fix their product. I’ve included a photo of my set up below for reference as I couldn’t find images of one fitted to a UK car.

First impressions are its easier on the hands (less force required to accelerate). The indicator switch is well positioned and once muscle memory sets in it’ll be automatic. Headlight button very useful. Only took 12 weeks to fit 😐
