I found this to be quite interesting. Manufacturers are going to have to cut prices of EVs to meet these targets. Hopefully, from a Motability perspective, this will result in more choice and lower APs.

Have not fear, Motability will be the manufacturers lord and saviour!
As the years go on closer to 2030 it will be become extremely difficult to buy an ICE/Hybrid. This will then start to cause a shift upwards of 2nd hand values of conventional fueld cars.
GFvernments of the western world are intentonaly blind sided on the damage caused during the manufacturer of these supposedly green machines, whils’t at the same time kidding themselves carbon offsetting is the answer but, potentialy will make little to no difference. In years to come I can see another Gordon Brown moment (diesel) by future governments rowing back on the idea!.
You will nothing and be happy!
October 7, 2023 at 11:15 pm #237010@kezo the future of car purchases between 2025 and 2035 will need more than a crystal ball. I expect the ability to buy pure ICE beyond 2030 would be a limited choice, often looking like the PHEV options do now. Maybe this will boost used prices, in the same way that the delayed delivery of new vehicles post Covid helped keep used car prices at silly levels.
The progressive targets will pretty much force the issue. 80% BEV won’t leave much space for both hybrid and pure ICE.
As for the impact on Motability, prices for EVs have already reduced significantly for many manufacturers. When you take into account the speech shared in another thread highlighting an intent to use the size of their customer base to encourage EV uptake, I would expect the prices across the board to reduce for, initially, hybrids and BEVs whilst increasing prices on ICE vehicles, although at a slower pace.

I know it’s cruel to laugh at another’s misfortune but I did giggle a little. There’s no need to apologise, I’ve abandoned replies before because I completely lost track of what I intended to say. ?? I guess old age has kicked in.
