has anyone else found the pagentry surrounding the queens passing fascinating?

i am ex army so i am used to a certain amount of pagentry and indeed have taken part in quite a bit.

but today with the accession meeting of the privy council and the subsequent proclamation in st james and later in the city of london. and it will continue in scotland, ireland even around english cathedrals and town halls and subsequentally the commenwealth. it will take ages and back in the day would have taken months to let all the realms know there was a new monarch.

and it is still done as it was hundreds of years ago, even though it actually went around the world in seconds on thursday evening.

The pageantry is pretty much a Victorian invention and to my mind totally out place today. It was arguable out of place in 1952/3 and much criticised at the time because the post-war nation couldn’t afford it.  Has anyone in power questioned if we can afford it now?   Has it any relevance?  For me, stick a crown on Charles head and tell him to jog off.

By all means let’s give the Queen a send off, she’s done 70 years in the job after all. But days of mourning imposed on us by the state which really should be sorting out all the issues we need dealing with. I don’t think so.

If people want a pageant they can watch a film.

According to Forbes Magazine, the House of Windsor is estimated to be worth £19 billion ($28 billion) and pumps hundreds of millions of pounds into Britain’s economy every year.

According to a financial expert, it is the 1,000-year-old Firm’s public perception and influence that makes it so valuable.

Chief executive of Brand Finance David Haigh told Forbes: “It is a very formalized influencer business.”

Mr Haigh explained that unlike a celebrity family such as the Kardashians, the Windsors don’t personally profit from the business itself.

However, they contributed an estimated £1.9 billion ($2.7 billion) annually to Britain’s economy pre-pandemic.

The was no commercial advertising on ITV this evening. Instead the government is compensating ITV for their lost revenue with your money.  Anyone know how long this nonsense is going to last?

If they are, but i doubt they are, more likely it’s a commercial decision not to do so as who’d want their advert on the back of the queens death. Many of these companies are so woke they don’t want to offend anyone.

We record most stuff and then watch it and fwd the ad’s. Well the mrs doe’s and it’s been messing up her recordings.

If they was it will pale in comparison, with the money they give away in weapons to prolong a war,imo all to blame the cost of living crisis on and the great reset coming. Plus all the covid money they gave away and now the money to keep bills down all pumping up the debt soon we will hit 3 trillion.

Seems as always people worry about the peanuts and don’t care about the real tree that’s being shaken. Serco now running our 3 local leasure centre’s on a 10 year contract.

Nope. There’s a statement on the ad breaks acknowledging HMG paying them.
