I don’t know for sure as I have not got a wheelchair but for what it’s worth this is my thoughts.
When I ordered a hoist for my current car Motability gave the AP for the car and also said / says, AP = £x,xxx plus lease of hoist = £290. I paid the AP plus the £290 on collection of the car.
Now it sounds like the hoist is actually being hired but its not because the hoist is mine and not part of the hire.
Although the cost of the hoist is subsides by Motability it is mine not there’s. I’ve removed the hoist from my car as I’ve made other arrangements for loading my scooter into the car and I’ve told Motability I’ve removed it and they were not the slightest bit worried.
So with that thought I would say the wheelchair is yours but not 100% on that.

Motability website says“Can I keep the wheelchair at the end of my lease?
No. The wheelchair is leased in the same way as your Scheme car. You need to return it with your car at the end of your lease.”
I would hope that I could keep til end of car lease extension with no charge?
July 29, 2022 at 4:49 pm #192187I imagine you’d keep it at no extra cost.
July 30, 2022 at 4:01 pm #192280It is a grey area I’d admit as to whom owns the extra equipment we buy but I often removed the steering wheel remote control device from my car and there has never been any come back with regards to charges or hire rates even though it makes out on the original order form for the car that its part of the hire agreement.
If your extending then I can’t see them asking for more money to cover the wheelchair. The wheelchair hire is something new the past few years so maybe they will want it back but put it aside when you change cars and see if they say anything.
I’ve got all the parts for my hoist as mentioned above in the attic and if they do ask about or give any threats to reducing my GCB I will gladly take it to the installers who installed it and they can have it back but can’t see they would do that and all there really worried about is the car itself with all its bits and pieces and most of all, it’s two keys. ?
July 30, 2022 at 4:50 pm #192291Thanks again Chris.
Don’t think many are aware that you can lease a very light wheelchair. As my spouse is ‘small and lightweight’ it means that we only need a small car, wheelchair in boot upright and luggage, if required, on backseat.August 29, 2022 at 3:27 pm #195445What do the dealers do with them I wonder?
