Hyundai Kona is the only real alternative on the scheme.
The wait time btw is just slightly longer than normal for an ID3 currently (lead times around 12-14 months).
edit: the Kona does currently have a lead time of around 7-8 months as well though.
Prior: SEAT Ateca Xcellence Lux 1.5 TSI DSG MY19, VW Golf GTE PHEV DSG MY23
Current: Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate
Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.February 11, 2022 at 4:25 pm #176982
CapuchinWe suspect Hyundai are being a little pessimistic with their estimates, but yea expect 26+ weeks.

CoastalviewThat doesn’t sound good.Mine ordered end of July 2021 but my dealer is still waffling and won’t cough up the truth. My charger will need updating or rust and drop off the wall, by the time I get that car.
The other issue is that VW are revamping the whole car for 2023 so if you get one this at the end of this year it will be out of date within months. What a joke.
February 11, 2022 at 4:49 pm #176986That’s odd as I understand that week 44 is in October and I too have had an email today from my VW dealer telling me my Tiguan would be built in October and not April as previously thought.
Today must be the day that VW put out all the good news. ?

JojoeI posted on another thread, I read a German news website (Spiegel) they were reporting last week that VW plants in Germany had suspended the night shift for the foreseeable future due to the chip shortage. This effectively reduces output by a third.
February 11, 2022 at 8:03 pm #176996When we opted for the Kona over the ID.3, we were quoted 13 weeks and 26 weeks respectively, now its 26 and 78. Crazy situation.
February 12, 2022 at 5:30 am #177004It is a nightmare as you say and very little you can do about it.
There is only one trim of the ID3 available to buy now, they have dropped the Max and Tour for now. Interestingly, the ID3 is now more expensive than the base ID4!!
It is a complete mess – caused by their success no doubt. ?

February 13, 2022 at 3:23 pm #177185I do wonder how many might cancel and opt for something, even petrol or diesel, with a quicker delivery?
February 14, 2022 at 5:29 am #177274Not me @fwippers. I have waited so long now, I have almost forgotten about it! The AP situation would put me right off changing as well. Soon be Christmas . . .

James cheerJust had a call from VW and my cars apparently being built September but it’s not confirmed they said so at that point will have been a 12 month wait if not more look like I’ll be getting a 2023 car

CapuchinI feel so bad for you. Kona the best alternative (think me and fwippers preferred it to the id3 and Rene went for a gte)

That´s right, a personal choice. Realistically I think I am looking at around 5 months for the Kona, the Premium had a slightly shorter build than the Ultimate. The guy at VW quoted me 26 weeks back in November, Hyundai 13 but both said this would be subject to change. A question of patience, still time flies!

CapuchinYep my personal preference was actually the Kona (regardless of wait), although I won’t have rear passengers! The actual buttons for climate control and ventilated comfy seats did it for us.
February 14, 2022 at 7:14 pm #177409For me the interior space is important coupled with an easy to use infotainment system and climate control. The Kona ticked the boxes in all respects. We have ventilated seats in our Tuscon and they are a real boon on a hot day. Like you, we will not have rear passengers, the vast majority of the time, although the rear seat space is similar to our old 1 series and that was fine, as will be the Kona if needed.

ldc7080I know its not news you want to hear but at least it is news. i ordered my ID3 tour on the 26/8. the paperwork said indicative delivery date 2nd Jan 2022. its now the 15/2/22 and having spoke to my dealer twice this year he has said that he cannot tell me when my car will be built. my insurance on my current lease has been extended until the 2nd of august is that anything to go by? we will see! in terms of something else really not much to chose from from Kona, Mokka, 2008, Leaf, Soul, MG ZS. all under £2k Mokka available at £0 AP which is fantastic from Vauxhall given where we are and what all other make are costing. only downside is non have the wheelbase of the ID3 so wont be as roomy inside.
