my journies are short less than 15 miles total but regular due to daily physio so would a self charging hybrid work? when would it charge on such short journies? would i get any benefit from the electric.

once a month i do a 60 mile round trip.

so would i be better going the whole hog and getting a bev even though i cant charge at home and public chargers that work are few and far between round here.

I have a Corolla Touring do about the same as you and have not had any problems.

One of the best cars I have ever had.

You have to really go in eyes wide open if you can not charge at home. Plenty of people can manage it, but it does add another layer to your routine.

What is your motivation for going full EV?

Mine is a self charging H/B.

            No charger required.

Fill up about once a month.

I have a Toyota Corolla self charging hybrid, it will do around 70 mpg urban driving and 60 mpg on a run in the summer with no plugging in, it runs on battery around 50% of the time, urban, bit less in winter. It’s a nice car and very easy to drive.

If your interested in the estate the Suzuki Swace is a cheaper option, it’s the same car with different specs and a Suzuki badge on.

Mitch, seeing as you only require a small car, Toyota are bringing out a GR Yaris in the second quarter of 2022 for the UK/European market. It’s a self-charging hybrid with a 1.5 petrol engine and is good for almost 60 mpg. Don’t let a CVT box put you off. Toyota’s CVT’s are pretty bloody good & my last car – a C-HR – was excellent. Just a thought mate and deffo one to add to your future list…

I had the C-HR hybrid and it was a great car overall. I averaged near 60 in summer, and in town you get a bit better. Ive a bev now, but it needs charged; but at mileage i do, not often really.  Toyota have been doing self charging for a long time and for most part have ironed out the problems.

@solent60, i need the higher driving position my backs shot, i moved up from the mini 3dr to the countryman.

i have been looking online at the aygo x and the yaris cross which look as though they may work. the aygo x due in showrooms mayish, its still relatively small so i would need to physically test it. getting in and out is the main issue. the c-hr will be tested again as well although as with most the ap’s are higher.

i still have a hankering for the bmw i3s and the advantage there is its ap has dropped lol.

bevwise if the gym sort out their charger so it works/isnt ice blocked that would be my charging place as i am there for either an hour or two hours every weekday.

I had a Toyota Prius self charging, very impressed with it and got over 90mpg in the summer. But if you are only doing very short journeys I doubt you would get anywhere near that as the engine has to heat up to get the economy. I now have a bev Peugeot e208 which is good but I can charge from our outside domestic socket which is slow but wouldn’t be problem for your sort of miles. I assume you don’t have a drive?
