Mike, the problem you may have is with the key only being 7 feet away from the car when stored in the kitchen the car may always think that the key is there and so in effect you can’t lock the car. The only way you will know is to try it and if you can open the car with the key in your kitchen then buy one of the boxes suggested, they’re not expensive.
If your concerned about relay theft then for a top of the range Mercedes yes be concerned but for a Toyota C-HR perhaps not so much.
