Rear End Shunt

On Thursday the 15th June dropped of the wife for her hip replacement on the way back home from dropping her off I stopped at some traffic light, a white Ford Kuga coming up behind me was weaving all over the road, however at the traffic light they stopped about 2 metres behind me. All ok so you think.

The lights were still red and my car was stationary for some reason the driver in the Ford Kuga shunted into the back off my car, I assumed they must have forgotten to secure their handbrake, I got out of the car and asked the driver behind what was going on, it was a young mother with a very young baby, her head was in her hands and she was crying hysterically, I check the rear of my car, she had hit my towbar  and slightly hit her front spoiler, no damage to my car, at it appeared no damage to hers. I told her it is ok no damage to my car, but get her car checked over.

I have Nextbase front and rear cameras which record everything, when I got home I uploaded the data to my PC, the young lady prior to the shunt was playing with her phone, probably the reason why she was weaving all over the road earlier.

I have reported the incident by phone to Motability Insurance company  RSA, I have upload the video data to RSA which covers all of the accident before and after the shunt as she drove away. RSA required the data just in case at a later date she tries to make a spurious claim.

Thankfully it is all on camera.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Obviously she had no care for her child using a mobilie phone!

At least it was only minor bump and no one was hurt or were you inconvenienced by having your car off the road for repairs.

Part of me also say you should have uploaded the video footage to the police. At least it may have stopped her froming doing it again, especially with child in the back…

Very much a replay of a rear-end shunt I had just over a year ago. The chap behind me willingly admitted it was his fault and the after-conversations were very sociable. Hopefully it all works out just as well for you – especially with the evidence at hand.

My only reason for posting is that I really do wish Motability took the initiative here with dashcams and made them standard on all their cars.

It wasn’t too long ago that people were posting here saying Motability positively forbade the install of dashcams (if I remember correctly) which seems to be a very strange position for what if effectively a very large group insurance policy. Especially where Motability insured drivers may well have obvious disabilities and be seen as potential easy targets for blame from the perspective of the other party involved.

RSA were more interested were in the vehicle the baby was travelling and if the appropriate child seating. Within minutes they had all the vehicles data up and specifically ask for a description of the drive, I gave a description and referred to to rear video footage, all the time when I spoke to her she covered her face with her hands.

RSA did ask were the police were informed, I stated no it was a minor bump, I have the strong feeling RSA maybe talking to the Kuga driver insurance company especially as regard use a mobile phone with an baby onboard, not sure if they will enhance the video and inform the authorities ?

I was under impression Motability if the live feed was connected it had to been carried out by dealership, however there was not an issue if it was connected through the vehicle 12v outlet (cigarette lighter), you can understand they do not want any DIY electric to their lease vehicle.

Interesting to see if RSA do anything about it, though I suspect they will just files it as evidence just incase the third party puts a claim in!

I can agree with that, at least I have covered myself.
