Well done mate, hope you enjoy it and look forward to your views on the battery SUVs you see there.

Also there was the Renault Austral which is coming on to the scheme next week. 2 models with AP of £2,499 and £3,499.

This is my personal view on the cars we looked at (with input from she who may be the only driver soon, as I had cataract surgery which has destroyed the vision in my right eye)

Quite a few people there, but not a lot of waiting to get to sit in the cars.

Some cars I wasn’t expecting, and some not there, no Volvos for example, but the charger stands did have an xc40

            Our targets were

            1. easy to get in and out of the drivers seat

            2. easy access to rear seats

            3. Large boot to fir two Golden Retrievers lol

looked at the Nissan Aryia first, nice car, but two things took it off my list, the rear seats are at an angle that your legs are up in the air and for long journeys,n would be uncomfortable and only 63kwh battery

Then looked at the Mustang Mach-e. Nice seat, but the boot height is quite short and actual useable height meant no space for the dogs, plus it was not easy to get in and out of the rear seats.

Hyundai Ionic 5, nice, big wide opening rear and front doors, electric tailgate, really comfy seats both front and rear. Long way to the frosb ports, way down in the floor, but does have usb and wireless in the centre console.

Skida Enyaq, iv60 lodge trim. Very nice, wife liked the touchy-feely alcantara on the dashboard and doors. Huge boot, huge rear space, my no1 choice but in iv80 battery I think.

MG5 estate. Now this was the surprise of the show for me, comfy seats, nice big boot, funnily enough, this car and the Funky cat had no people looking at them!

xc40, boot, I’m afraid is just too small for us and the wife was unimpressed that the interior was just like the xc60 we had years ago, that it hadn’t been refreshed.

BMW X2, too small in boot size for us,same for the Renault offerings, all quite small boots.

So, it was worth the visit to see some cars tgat I could eliminate from my lust.

I still have the VW id4 and 5 to look at, possibly the Ford explorer if it ever comes on the scheme and the same for the Subaru Solterra.

            So,mcurrnetly,my list in preference is:

Skoda Enyaq iv80 (speaking to the Skoda chap, the iv80 has a shorter lead time of around 24 weeks compared to 12 months for the 60)

            Hyundai Ionic 5

            and the wild card MG5.

next will be to test drive these three.

speaking to the Motability people, I asked why we couldn’t get any other specs and it seems they have put a cap if an ap of £8,000 on cars.

Sorry, for got to add, mead a look at the two suppliers of chargers and their chargers, Ohme and Easee.

Totally different looking units and for me I liked the look of the Easee charger more than the Ohme, plus you can have the Easee charger tethered or untethered, controlled by the app, Ohme was either, not both.

I’ve seen a few AP’s floating around about the Austral. Did they say which specs were coming onto the scheme?

Anyone speak to Cupra and what they have to offer?

They gad a cuppa Born in the stand, but wasn’t a size I was interested in, so didn’t speak to them. sorry

Also, a lot if the stands had only show relations people just to take contact information, not actual company people

The Renault lady said that both specs of the Austral coming on scheme have powered tailgate and heated seats so looking at info online that means it is £2.5k for the Techno Esprit Alpine, and £3.5k for the Iconic Esprit Alpine. The bottom of the range Techno won’t be on scheme. Only 1 engine in the range so it’ll be that one.
