New motability customer, do I wait?

So I’ve just been awarded the higher rate of Pip so can apply for a vehicle on motability. There’s not a great deal that is suitable, only have my eyes on the VW Tiguan allspace. But was told by the friendly people at motability that there are new cars being added on the 1st of October. Now should I wait, Incase there’s something more suitable, or Incase the AP goes down? Or would it be more of a risk on it being removed? I really think they should announce beforehand what changes are to be made to the car lineup’s.
As someone that has never had a vehicle on motability before, are there any tips or advice?

      many thanks in advance.

      david.

You have summed up a common predicament faced by many at one time or another.

I would be tempted to order now with a view to cancelling and reordering should there be any significant changes.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

My advice is this, if you see a car that you like and fulfills you needs and is affordable, order it. Don’t hang around.

As for what may or may be on the scheme next month – even Mystic Meg couldn’t tell you I’m afraid.

All in all, it is very limited and expensive – or put another way, pretty crap just now.

If I order a car now, and it’s replaced by a newer model, do you usually receive the latest version?
also, are deposits usually required when placing an order.
I am completely new to this.

You’ll get whatever the build of the model you order is at the time of build ( assuming it isn’t already in country and available etc). Sometimes spec goes up, sometimes one or two items get removed. You shouldn’t be asked for a deposit ( though if you’re putting optional extras on you may be asked in regard to those, I’ve never added extras so not sure). You can also ask the dealer if they’ll honour the lower AP in the event it goes down, they’re usually happy to do so.

Great, many thanks for your answers.

I shall make an appointment to order.

I feel even with the high AP of the cars, it pays for itself over a few years, as the insurance, tax, servicing, repairs, breakdown cover, etc, all seem to be covered, which would amount to pretty much the AP.

I agree with WardyGTC – if there’s a car on the scheme that suits your needs now, I’d order it without delay.

I was in a very similar situation last quarter. I decided to bite the bullet and ordered the Kona Ultimate EV on the 27th June. When the new list came out on 1st July, the AP had gone up by 300 and a few days later it was removed from the list altogether.

The Tiguan Allspace is a great car with loads of space – I’ve had a Seat Tarraco Excellence Lux which is built on the same platform for the last 3 years. I can get a manual wheelchair and mobility scooter alongside each other in the boot and have 2 isofix child seats on back seat. Not much else on the list has so much space unless you go for one of the van based vehicles. The AP is ridiculous for an entry level trim car, but over the 3 years of the lease is still a great deal IMO.

Make sure you get a decent test drive, I did have a lower trim vw golf and the seat was so uncomfortable after 20 mins. If i was to get another vw it would have to have better seats and they all on the highest specs.

The £3799 ap for the automatic amounts to £105.52 a month (over the 3 year lease) above the full allowance. If you was to extended the lease after 3 years for another 2 years it would be £63.31 a month and then there’s the wait for one.

Also it’s not the most economical car being the 1.5l petrol version so it’s likely to cost alot to run at current fuel prices and with the pound slumping they not gonna get better soon and may rise again.

If it’s your only option then at least you understand the few negatives of it as well as the positives and are making an informed choice. Plus you need to make sure the car is suitable for you needs and daily running costs are part of that.

For some of us on the scheme finding large ap’s of £3799 is not easy and is not viable either. It might be worth making a short list of vehicles that are suitable for you needs and I’d suggest going and seeing them and test driving them all.

The Tiguan Allspace is a great car.

Had mine for 2 years and I love it.
