This is a post to all the Motability detractors on here.
4 weeks ago my wife died. Her deteriorating MS meant she’d been a Motability customer for around 12 years. I was her registered driver. Last November we rushed her into hospital with suspected appendicitis. Two days later we found out she had advanced Ovarian cancer.
When she was diagnosed we were due to order a new car. I let Motability know telling them that it was daft ordering a new car because we didn’t know how long my wife had. So they kindly extended the lease on the current car for another 12 months.
When Jo died I notified Motability expecting to be told to hand the car back straight away. They told me that they were here to support me in this difficult time and allowed me to use the car for four weeks until I’d sorted my finances out etc.
I was supposed to drop the car off today at a local Motability dealer. Because of lockdown the dealer is fully closed. I spoke to Motability. They’ve kindly let me continue to use the car until May 5th with a view to extend if the current lockdown situation doesn’t change. All the staff I have dealt with have been so supportive and helpful.
Now bearing in mind that I wasn’t the customer and they’re not receiving payment any more from my wife’s PIP I think this service is absolutely phenomenal.
So to any detractors on here who complain that they can’t order an expensive German car or a 300bhp car please take a moment to really appreciate this great charity.
For roughly a £200 a month payment you’re getting a brand new car. You can go into a car dealership and enjoy the special feeling of browsing and test driving all sorts of different brands and then experiencing picking up your new motor. I know Jo and myself felt very lucky to be able to do this. Before we started on the scheme, we would buy 2nd hand cars with all the associated costs and worry that comes with this.
Please, please take a moment to appreciate how great Motability are.
