FishmanHi everyone ,called into my local Nissan main dealer ,just browsing , the Motability guy there said that they have been told [ Fri 7th July ] that new cars were being able to be ordered 5 months out ,rather than the current 3 ,which makes sense ,bearing in mind some of the waiting times .
However ,then popped into Ford main dealer and they were not aware of it ?
Anybody know what’s what ?

FishmanDid think that might be the case ,not the first salesman to be a little loose with the facts .
But as i said it would make a lot of sense [ maybe thats the problem ]
July 11, 2023 at 6:15 am #226081So if it did change to 5 months when do I order I collect drive away march 16th
July 11, 2023 at 9:52 am #226109Quite a few dealers will let you (unofficially) place an order for a vehicle prior to the 3 month timescale Motability give. The dealer will place an order with the manufacturer and put the paperwork throgh to Motabilty at the 3 month deadline!

RogerWilkoMenirca Mike. If this is not your first car, the lease hand back date doesn’t change.
for example, currently, my lease is up on 14th January 2024.
I can order from 14th October 2923
if it was five months I could order from 14th September 2023
however, regardless of the three months or five months, I cannot collect my new car until 14yj January 2024

Correct Roger!, However what it does do is cut waiting times.

FishmanWe hand back our current car at the end of Dec ,we were told by Motability that we can’t order till first week of Oct ,where if its now 5 months rather than 3 it makes it more likely [ i think ] that the “new” car will be ready and waiting .
Having said all that ,i am doubting the information given ,bearing in mind you good folks have not heard about it ,as well as nothing on the official website

KyleI can confirm this is correct for me, my lease is up 20th December 2023, so I can officially order a new one on the 20th September 2023. I went into Mazda and Renault June 2023 and enquired about waiting until September to order a new car and the waiting lead times on car availability. Mazda were taking new car orders un-officially as long as I could show them proof of my award letter from DWP with the enhanced rate for Mobility and it had at least 12 months remaining. Renault said they could look at ordering in August (1 month prior) as there is only a 3 month lead times on all makes an models, as the new vehicles were in the UK at the docks, stuck on container ships. I did ask Skoda, Kia and Hyundai and these said I need to wait until my lease date and have my new Customer Reference Number (CRN).
July 11, 2023 at 3:37 pm #226176It’s a risk for the garage as the car you have ordered early could be taken of the scheme before you can officially order

RogerWilkoThe other issue is that Motability renegotiate the cars on the scheme and the prices. So the dealer who takes the unofficial order won’t do any ordering until the quarter he can order process with Motability.
the benefit for him is he can sort of lock you in to ordering the car from him, but as he can’t order until the 3 month before, the lead time is not reduced, as the dealers can’t order for a Motability customer and won’t want to order a car he may not be able to sell within the lead time manufacturers give the dealership, around 90 days because they then have to pay the manufacturer
