zohaibHi guys, hope you’re all well i haven’t posted in forever just had a rollercoaster of a year. I ordered a Gtd last year May/June and it’s only started being built. Been a long time what’s everyone’s wait time been like? Funny thing is a friend of mine enquired on a gtd and ended up ordering one and has been told 2/3 months max. You think he’s having me on? as he’s adamant Are we being treated different as motab customers? Thanks guys

LesEither he’s having you on or his dealer is having him on.
I ordered 3rd April 2021 and just got an update saying it’s code Status Code 20, with a build week 14. That means it’s currently being built as we speak.
You’ll know when the build is complete once you have a VIN number.
Long wait, yes…But from what others are saying, it’s deffos worth the wait.

ReneWait times for Golfs are around 12 months, some up to 18 months.
2-3 months is bollocks.

zohaibWe’ll he has been known to be a bit of a fibber in the past. Thanks guys, how long does a car stay in production for until it’s delivered? Bet you’re excited too Les!

LesCan’t wait…
I’ve speced the Adelaide Alloys, Winter Pack, Sunroof, and DCC.
Wasn’t too bothered about the Harmon Kardon, the standard sound system is good enough according to the guys at the Golf Forums.
Managed to order it with the standard AP at £1,799 which was a bargain.
The AP increased by £1,000 in the next quarter, which is daylight robbery for the same car if you ask me.
April 14, 2022 at 6:33 pm #182735You at least have the option for the Karman Hardon system, in our GTE we would have taken it but couldn’t.
Instead, Bakersfield alloys, winter pack, reverse camera and head up display (the GTE isn’t lowered so no need for DCC).
The standard speakers were indeed okay, but better is always better.
Hopefully we’ll get it this year, ordered Nov last year and no build date since Ukraine war started 🙁

Well if your car’s build status 20 (confirmed build date), then it’s 4-6 weeks from then usually. You get build status 10 first (unconfirmed build date), which becomes status 20 4 weeks prior, if they don’t delay the production.

Lux>LooksWhat’s included in the Mk8 winter pack?
I didn’t think they offered the heated windscreen any more? As that would be one of my preferences, along with DCC & auto high beam. (Not fussed about techy stuff like HUD and phone connectivity).
Can’t tolerate big wheels myself…I wonder if DCC will really make much difference with 19s!
April 15, 2022 at 2:28 pm #182769
LesThere are 2x Winter Packs.
One which gives Heated Steering Wheel and Heated Front Seats, along with Heated Wing Mirrors.
The 2nd one all of the above plus rear Heated seats, which I wasn’t really bothered about.
I would argue that the 19′ alloys really make the GTD stand out, even more than a GTI with 18’s.
They really give the GTD that special look.
Plus, with the 19’s you get the Sport Suspension and Performance Tyres (Pilot Sport 4s or F1 Supersports).

ReneWho’d buy a GTI with 18 inch wheels?
The majority of GTI sell with Estoril wheels, rightfully so. DCC does make a difference, but even on the “softest” setting it’s still considerably stiffer than a standard Golf or even a GTE.
April 15, 2022 at 3:42 pm #182771
LesA lot of poverty spec GTIs out there Rene.
The standard 18′ alloys do not compliment the GTI at all.
Imagine waiting nearly 18 months for that.
April 15, 2022 at 4:41 pm #182773ive had my gtd about a month now and its going back to garage on the 5th may.fault after fault at the min.am sure there using cheap bits as they can not source parts not happy after a 49 week wait.
April 15, 2022 at 6:51 pm #182776
ReneGenuinely haven’t seen any 18 inch GTIs yet, didn’t even know it comes standard on 18s lol.
But if you wanna see poverty spec wheels, look no further than the £42.000 Golf GTE on those lovely 17″ wheels of awfulness.
Wadey, what happened?
April 15, 2022 at 6:51 pm #182777
Les<p style=”text-align: left;”>Wadey1457, what have been the main issues with yours?</p>
The Golf Forum is inundated with people complaining about the Golf MK8’s infotainment system and software glitches.Loads of people have been saying the same thing, having to send the car back to the dealer 6,7,8 times since delivery.
How does it drive/feel otherwise?
April 15, 2022 at 6:57 pm #182778
ReneRecently?
That was all supposed to be, well, maybe not fixed but certainly vastly improved with the software update 1790. And so far, people appeared to be happy with it.
Now, what would be interesting to know is, does Wadeys Golf already have the updated infotainment system or still the original one? I know that our Golf, as well as yours, will have different hardware than Golfs made a month or two ago.
April 15, 2022 at 6:58 pm #182779
Rene1790 or 1890, can’t remember exactly.

zohaibCheers Rene, hope it s arrives soon it’s at that status good you didn’t go poverty spec it’s one of the worst things you can do to yourself, and Les i’ve got the exact same options as you apart from the DCC i posted a question about that last year as i have a bit of a bad back but everyone said i wouldn’t really feel that much of a difference and then i went out in one last years with the adelaide’s and i felt good. I was also looking at the HK and i did want it but was told by the dealer the normal speakers are good, i think that was my only regret but i did get at £1799 thank god. Waiting on Wadey to see what the issues was usually GTDs and solid. Mines was status 20 2-3 weeks ago i hope i’ve got the updated infotainment system.

Lux>LooksI’d buy a GTI with 18″ wheels & DCC lol.
Wanted one for years (since my first Mk4 GT TDI 10 years ago) but need very smooth ride as I’ve mentioned in other threads…and much more so now than I did back then.
The GTI isn’t about speed or cornering G forces for me. It’s more about the whole ‘package’. I did have a couple of GTi-6’s and a Fiesta ST a few years back for the same reason. But by 2018 I couldn’t even tolerate 17s on an A3 Sport, had to stick to 16s and comfort suspension since then.
I’ve been considering a used Mk7.5 GTD Blueline if I can find one with DCC…they got 17’s for some company car tax reduction. But I like the red accents and the engine note on the GTI, plus I don’t want the hassle of short intervals on the TDI cambelts as a low mileage driver. Also can’t get any confirmation on whether they used the same suspension as the GTI or whether they were a little less harsh. Don’t suppose anyone here knows? Might eventually buy a Mk7 GTI with DCC and stick a set of 17s on it lol!
April 16, 2022 at 2:56 pm #182825no sound from speakers at all one min works fine the next nothing.you would think they would work as i payed over £600 for the better system.next when you get out and press the key to lock it wont sometimes and you have to press open on remote and then lock again only to find the next time you get in the car all your settings are gone.next rear traffic alert is currently unavailable.next error park distance control fault.next you get in and the stearing wont unlock so you carnt start the car you have to get out lock it and then get back in.when i called to book it in they did not sound surprised so must get it alot.

LesWadey1457 I’m so sorry to hear about the issues you’ve been having with the GTD.
I’ve got to say, I’m going to be taking delivery of the car with a bit of trepidation given the reported issues across the Golf forums.
Like Rene suggested, I genuinely hope the new hardware doesn’t have these issues.
I just don’t get it though, how come A3 or Leon FR owners have not been experiencing the same issues considering that they’re pretty much the same platform/car.
Coming from an 18 plate Leon FR 184 TDI at the moment, it has been a fantastic car…I’m not gonna lie, now it has me worried.
April 16, 2022 at 7:19 pm #182845Those don’t sound at all like the “systemic” errors the Golf gets, which usually have to do with the SOS unit, and the steering wheel.
I think the park distance error isn’t rare, the rest i’ve not seen before. And i go through the VW forums like a sponge.
Of course doesn’t make those errors better for you, but those sound more like a “monday” car, than the “normal Golf 8 problems”.
One thing to keep in mind, and i had the same issue with our current car where the 1.5 TSI was a concern (kangarooing for some people – i literally lost sleep over it, smoothest engine i’ve ever had in the end): forums are but a miniscule slice of owners.
There’s tens of thousands of new Golfs delivered every year. The majority of them is working just fine, at least to the point where they’re not technically broken (like Wadeys) after a month – neither in the UK, nor do german forums point to some fundamentally broken car.
As mentioned, many of the “systemic” problems the Golf has/had were fixed with version 1890 (now 1896), at least that’s what users report. Other problems seem to become fixed with a steering wheel change, which again is inexcusable of course but at least is a known problem/fix.
I’d be interested in Wadeys infotainment version, (both hardware and software version), i wonder which version he got. It’s a little bit of a confusing timeline, but despite the car being delivered somewhat recently, he might not be on 1890.
