Do you name your car?

Is your 4 wheeled friend worthy of a name? Or is it just a machine?

Personally, we always give our cars names. My mum always did, so I think I’ve carried on the tradition.

Currently I have Freddy Focus. I’ve had Arthur Astra, Ricky Red, Silvie Silver, Lenny the Leon, Bertie Black, Gandalf, Penelope purple (a 90’s Frontera, don’t ask!), and many others. They seem to be random in gender, and whether they go with the colour or the model. But they always have a name ?.

I did name my TR1 (Yamaha XV1000) The Wee Beastie, but I haven’t gone so far as name any of my (3) cars, yet.

I did talk to the first two (both Vauxhall GTC’s) like they were horses, though – chiding or encouraging, as needed.  Other than having an occasionally sticky brake release, the current one (VW Golf GT) is so well trained that it never needs any help from me.

First car, battleship grey Morrie Minor was “Thunderbird 2” because that’s what it looked like.

Favourite of all time, Nissan 200sx, was “The Beast”, as with the Yamaha, because it just was. (That’s some bike, Georgie!)

Current two-door Mini Cooper S is “The Tart” because she sits outside my window trying to seduce me into taking her out.

Being a Yorkshire man I simply call my X2 “Lass”

Weeeellllll, to be honest I really wanted one of the new Virago’s, but couldn’t afford one.  The R1 was second hand, but I got it from a friend who I know had looked after it properly.

Giving away my age, I know, but the bike reminds me of the Vincent and/or HRD V-twins from the 50s. Before the Japanese entered the market, they were THE motorcycle to have. I have a neighbour (just retired) who has acquired a gorgeous Harley. Massive bike with even more massive sound! Very jealous but it’s all academic; wonky leg means that I couldn’t even clear the seat to mount the machine, let alone hold the weight when at a stop.

“I’ve bought a used car and it has got some issues”

Oh, you can’t dangle something like that in front of us and get away with it.  We need Details, rufinojoe!  Details.  🙂
