WMC always make a fresh backup before tinkering. It saves having to fall back to Last auto save.
I leant the same lesson when I ran my own forums.
You might wish to set up a duplicate local site for testing changes before going live
Do it locally using “local by flywheel”. Make your changes to theme (files/css) and upload the updated theme to the live site when done.
Assuming you are using WordPress.
