We get around 32mpg in our 2.2d santa fe around town currently, more on the motorway, and only do 5000 miles a year, so whilst i’m not prepared to go to a Volvo T4 level of mpg, I wouldn’t rule out a petrol auto if mpg was similar to what we get currently.
When the time comes we’ll have all the fun of the test drives and do the sums and see how that looks.
