I have the 1.5, 3 cylinder engine in a 218i coupe and it’s a great package. The light engine up-front really helps the handling. Sounds nice, if a little quiet. Very smooth indeed. Acceleration feels urgent enough in Sport mode, given all the limitations on speeding these days (but if you want to quickly charge up to 120mph, it’s not for you). A steady 60mph gets me about 60mpg. 70mph brings it down to around 52mpg. As I said, it’s a great package and every journey feels like an occasion.
