that one is really down to the dealership and the terms and conditions they set out. In many cases if it’s a popular and sellable car then it won’t be an issue to them and may not ask for deposit, to show committed intent to the order a lot of dealers in that situation will ask for a deposit or even full payment of extras. Should you need to cancel, their terms and conditions need to clearly specify any non returnable deposits etc.
Its all down to the realationship between yourself and the dealership, talk things through and ask the questions especially “worst scenario I need to cancel what happens”
if paying any deposits always ask for the conditions in writing or backed up with an email.
if they take a deposit and no written/email conditions given then in the eventuality you need to cancel they are liable to fully refund you.
